Allen Robert Harmon, Sr., 68, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1947 in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Charles Percy and Annette (Morin) Harmon.
Allen was a 1965 graduate of Smithsburg High School.
He worked as an inspector with Volvo/Mack Powertrain in Hagerstown for 43 years.
Allen was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God and the United Automobile Workers (UAW). He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Allen was a talented woodworker and volunteered with a youth group to make bird houses. He loved spending time with his family.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Melvina L. (Moatz) Harmon; a son, Allen Robert Harmon, Jr. and wife Peggy; a daughter, Lori Michelle (Harmon) Williams; six brothers, Ralph Harmon, Mark Harmon, H. Charles Harmon, Richard Harmon, Michael Harmon, David Harmon; four sisters, Pam Proctor, Cassandra Harmon, Alfreda Harmon, Cindy Reynolds; five grandchildren, Emily Williams, Andrew Harmon, Brett Harmon, Ruby Williams, Anthony Williams; a great-grandson, Kolton Lowman; seven brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Pam Lawson, Greg Moatz and wife Donna, Steve Moatz and wife Tammy, Gordon Moatz, Sr., Darlene Kipe, Krista Haugh, Karla Rowe and husband Larry; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Moatz; several nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and his faithful dog and cat, Muffie and Kobe.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Rita Gardner.
A viewing will be held from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. A funeral, with Rev. Paul Harne officiating, will start at 2:00pm.
Burial will follow the service in Rest Haven Cemetery.
