Alvin Jesse "Jim" Plummer, 84, of Hagerstown, passed away, Friday, February 3, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
Born December 8, 1932 in Washington D.C. he was the son of the late, Edward Dewese and Jessie DeEtte (Harris) Plummer. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by three brothers. Mr. Plummer was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Plummer was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1954 graduate of the University of Maryland where he was a member of the Terrapin Club for over 50 years.
He was a veteran of the US Navy.
He was president of the E.D. Plummer Sons Inc., Chambersburg, Pa. He served as director, treasurer and president of the Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Assoc.; director, treasurer and vice president of the National Asphalt Pavement Assoc. and served as director of the Associated Pennsylvania Contractors Assoc.
Mr. Plummer was a member of First Christian Church for over 50 years where he was a member of the Higgins Mens Bible Study and served as deacon and trustee and chairman of the building committee. Also he was one of the original founding members of the Christian Heirs Sunday School Class.
He was a 50 year member of Friendship Lodge No. 84 A.F. & A.M., Hagerstown; York Rite of Freemasonry and the Hagerstown Forest No. 95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. A life member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 378, Hagerstown and was an assistant coach for the Valley Little League, Chewsville.
Mr. Plummer is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen Kay (Holtzman) Plummer; three children, Steven Charles Plummer and wife, Brenda, Lauren DeEtte Jones and husband, Harry and James Bradley "Jay" Plummer and wife, Julie; six grandchildren, Jennifer Saldivar and husband, Matt, Stephanie Salas and husband, Charles, Stacie Plummer and fiancé, Bryan Knapp, Tyler Jones and wife Emily, Trey Jones and Erin Plummer and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Jake Caldwell officiating. Inurnment will be conducted at a later date.
Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 5-7 P.M.
