Andrea Lea Nemir

Bond, James Bond.

Just like her favorite movie character James Bond, Andrea Lea Nemir was strong in spirit, fiercely independent and incredibly fearless. While Bond was known for his weapons and gadgets, Andrea was known for her sense of wit and intelligent humor.

Andrea’s adventure began May 15th, 1980. She was born the youngest of three daughters to Dr.Michael and Summer Nemir of Hagerstown. A performer at an early age, Andrea acted in community theater throughout her life and productions at St.Maria Goretti High School. Accepted into Hofstra University in New York, her plan was to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a professional actress. However, life assigned her a different mission.

Andrea was diagnosed with Neurofibromotosis Type 2 (NF2) at age 10, and while it time and time again tried to steal her spotlight through countless surgeries and limiting her physical abilities she persevered. When Hofstra was no longer an option, Andrea accepted her new mission and instead pursued her dream by earning her associates degree in theater from HCC. She continued taking roles in community theater for as long as she could. Throughout her life her positive energy, humor, and loyalty bolstered the lives of her family and friends.

Always optimistic and upbeat, Andrea used her time to spread awareness of NF2. She battled it through fundraisers, focus groups and trial drug treatments. Through it all, Andrea never let NF2 define her. While her time her was nowhere long enough, Andrea made sure to stay positive, taking her drinks the proper way, shaken, not stirred.

Andrea is survived by her secret agent sisters MaryLou Humphrey and Christina Nemir, and her sidekick Yorkie, Percival.

A memorial gathering will be held on May 15 between 1pm and 4pm at 1506 Kensington Drive in Hagerstown.
