Audrey Marie (Sprecher) Grier, 82, of Hagerstown passed from this life into eternal rest on November 28, 2021. She was born on December 23, 1938 to the late Frederick Lee and Hester Marie (Funkhouser) Sprecher of Clear Spring, Maryland.
Audrey is survived by her loving and caring husband of 63 years, Jack, and their three children and their spouses: Sue Ellin Grier Clarke and husband Robert, James Bradley Grier and wife Terri, Laurie Ann Grier Wasiljov and husband Michael. Audrey and Jack have five grandchildren: R. Ryan Clarke, Lindsay K. Clarke Brubaker and husband Nate, Kristyn L. Grier, Jessica N. Wyatt, Rebecca L. Grier. They also have three great-grand children.
Audrey is also survived by her older brother, Robert L. Sprecher and wife Peggy, 5 nieces and her late nephew, Tyler Sprecher as well as sisters-in-law Gerri Sprecher, wife of Audrey’s late younger brother, Forrest Sprecher, and Jack’s sister, Barbara E. Duffey. Audrey also leaves behind her beloved constant companion, a Westie, Braydee. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, John Brayden Grier, and her youngest brother, Forrest Owen Sprecher.
Audrey graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1956 and the Hagerstown Business School in 1957. She was previously employed at Western Maryland Railroad, Fairchild Aircraft and F & M Bank. She spent many years raising her children and being a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. Audrey was proud to tell others she raised a nurse, a pilot and a teacher. Over the years, she was a member of the Hagerstown Lioness Club, Chewsville Homemakers Club and the Green Hill Garden Club.
She dearly loved flowers and spent many hours tending her gorgeous gardens which were always in bloom. She also enjoyed reading the Bible and having quiet time with the Lord, reading, sewing and challenging her mind with crossword puzzles.
She was a born-again Christian devoted to Jesus Christ. She was a former member of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Chewsville, MD where she sang on the choir and taught children’s Sunday School.
The family will receive friends on December 9, 2021 at the Rest Haven Funeral Home in Hagerstown, Maryland from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Rest Haven Chapel beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Grinchenko presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services for those who cannot visit on Thursday evening. The casket will be closed during funeral services.
