Bettie Jane Rhodes

Bettie Jane (Yingling) Rhodes, 88, of Hagerstown, went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center.
Born March 13, 1925 in Hanover, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Samuel David and Vada Mamie Rebecca (Shaffer) Hess.
She worked as a homemaker.
Bettie attended St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking and loved to share her beef stew and spaghetti sauce recipes.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Robert Kenneth Rhodes, who died June 9, 1996.
Bettie is survived by three daughters, Sharon L. Reed and husband Ron, Christine A. Rhodes, Jane R. Rhodes all of Hagerstown; a sister, V. Louise Mummert and husband Richard of Spring Grove, PA; a niece, Suzanne Cramer of Hanover, PA; a nephew, Rev. William Mummert and wife Chris of Spring Grove, PA; several nieces; nephews; a special cat, Chessie; and a special dog, Chase.
In addition to her birth parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her adopted parents, Howard and Laura Belle (Miller) Yingling; a brother, Merell Hess, Sr. of Colorado; adopted siblings, Howard Ephriam Yingling, Sterling Yingling, Rev. William Yingling, John Yingling, and Elsie Goodfellow.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family and officiated by Rev. Mark Sandell and Rev. William Mummert.
Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bettie's name to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Dr., Williamsport, MD 21795.
