Betty Hepperle

Betty Jane Norris West Hepperle, 87, passed away on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at Broadmore Senior Living at Hagerstown where she has been a resident since July, 2013. Many of the personnel at Broadmore affectionately referred to her as Grandma.
Born May 28, 1928 in Weverton, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Everett Earl Norris and Lucy May Penner Norris.
Betty began her working career as a secretary at Fairchild after which she worked for the Federal Government for many years first in the Personnel Department at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland and finally retiring in 1988 from the Farmers Home Administration office in Hagerstown. She was an avid bowler for years and a long-time member of the Funkstown Legion Post 211 Auxilliary. She and her late husband Earl Hepperle were active members of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and the Energizer Group. In their late years they loved spending their winters in Clearwater, Florida where they enjoyed bowling, shuffleboard, biking, swimming and playing cards with fellow snowbirds.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Grove of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Craig William Grove and wife Tracy of Waynesboro, and Ryan Neal Grove and wife Sarah of Smithsburg; three step-granddaughters, Amber, Stephanie and Mallory Hepperle; five great-grandchildren, Katherine “Katie” and Stella Louise Grove of Waynesboro and Elana May, Isaac Kenneth and Aaron Jonah Grove of Smithsburg. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth McGolerick (husband John) of Braddock Heights and Theda Deener of Waycross, Georgia; one brother, Fred Norris (wife Patty) of Hagerstown; a very special niece, Johanna Nye (husband Barry) of Hagerstown; and numerous other nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Barthley West; her second husband, Earl William “Bud” Hepperle, Jr.; her son-in-law, Kenneth Neal Grove; three sisters, Anna Guyer, Genevieve Ingram and Luella Baer; and four brothers, Bradley Norris, Quentin Norris, Everett J. Norris and Ray Thomas Norris.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 with the Reverend Michael Henning officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at Rest Haven. Burial at Rest Haven will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1020 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown, Maryland 21740
