Betty Joan Heck

Betty Joan Heck, 89, of Hagerstown Maryland passed away, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born December 2, 1928 in Oil City, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late, William C. and Florence (Redmond) Taylor. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey S. Heck and her son-in-law, Ward R. Duffey.

Mrs. Heck was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Hagerstown where she was a long time member of the choir with her husband, Bob. She was active in church missions and a leader of the Youth Fellowship.

Mrs. Heck was an accomplished and well known Tri-State Area watercolor artist. She was an exhibitor and awarded artist in many areas of painting, embroidery, weaving, pottery and ceramics. She held active memberships in the Cumberland Valley Art Association, Embroiders Guild,Washington County Art Museum Weavers Guild, The Valley Art Association at the Mansion House, City Park, Hagerstown and a long time member of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Her career included owner and operator of the Cutter House Shoppe, Cuba, NY featuring Ceramics and Pottery and Ceramic sales and classes; Drafting Designer at John Oliver Homes, Hagerstown; Draft-person at Moeller Pipe Organ, Hagerstown; Interior Designer at Paramount Interiors, Hagerstown.

Mrs Heck is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert "Bob" Heck; three children, Deborah Duffey of Hagerstown, Pam Downin and husband, Robert Downin III of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Doug Heck and wife Susan (Kohler) Heck of Sykesville, Md.; five grandchildren, Lori Baughman of Hagerstown, Sean Duffey of Ellicott City, Md., Heather Butts of Falling Waters, Rob Downin of High Springs, Fla. and James Heck of Hagerstown and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Katie O'Hern and Rev. Patrick Ricker officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, February 18th from 3-5 P.M.
