Betty Lee Carter

Betty Lee (Winters) Carter, 73, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Coffman Nursing Home.

Born January 6, 1941 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Catherine Louise (Dunn) Winters.

Betty was a 1958 graduate of Clearspring High School.

She was married to her late husband, David Lee Carter on March 18, 1961.

She retired as a legal secretary for the Washington County Courthouse.

Betty was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi International. Betty will be remembered as a wonderful grandmother! Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She was a devoted mother and wife as well as her daughter's hero.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Carter, who passed away on April 3, 2010; a sister, Jacqueline Shifflett; and a brother, David Winters.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Lynda L. Moser and husband Allen of Hagerstown, Teresa A. Stoner and husband Phil of Greencastle; four grandchildren, Sarah Holsinger and husband Richard, Ariel Kifer and boyfriend Christopher Joliet, David Moser, Cierra Stoner; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Allen Holsinger, all of Hagerstown; four siblings, Delores Seal, Margaret Clark all of Hagerstown, Ronald Winters of Hawaii, and Barbara Snowberger of Waynesboro.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Chaplain Dwayne Musgrove officiating. Inurnment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
