Betty Jane (Schaffer) Manspeaker, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019, under hospice at Casa de la Luz, in Tucson, Arizona.
Born February 29, 1932 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Schaffer and Edith Schaffer Manspeaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry F. Manspeaker, Sr. and son Daniel L. Manspeaker.
Betty was employed at Washington County Hospital, which then became Meritus Medical Center and retired after working 43 years in the radiology department.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and soon to be great-great grandmother and was affectionately called "Nanny or Nan" by her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her infamous birthday phone calls and terms of endearment by saying "oh sweetheart." In her eyes, we were all "spring chickens".
She is survived by her son, Henry (Pete) Manspeaker, Jr. of Tucson, AZ and her daughter Pamela Dieterich of Hagerstown, MD: five grandchildren, Amy Davis Gentry and significant other Antwan of Hagerstown, Angie Shiflett and husband Josh of Bath, NC, Ashley Dieterich of Hagerstown, Elliot Manspeaker and significant other Kenni, Joel Manspeaker and wife Liz all of Tucson, AZ; nine great-grandchildren, Courtenay Love, Daniel and Domanick Trimmer all of Hagerstown, Brooklynn Manspeaker, William Kramer, Ellie and Julianna Williams all of Tucson, AZ, Emma and Owen Shiflett of Bath, NC; one great-great grandbaby of Hagerstown; one brother, Daniel Schaffer and wife Shirley of Bradenton, FL; and daughter in law and caretaker Patricia Manspeaker of Tucson, AZ.
The family will receive friends at Rest Haven Funeral Home on Monday October 21, 2019 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be on Tuesday October 22, 2019 at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Reception will follow in the Rest Haven reception area, where the family welcomes anyone who would like to attend.
