Betty Stubits of Hagerstown died of complications from Alzheimer's disease at home on Tuesday, October 2, 2013.

Born October 31, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Russell E. Provard and Mary E. (Rummel) Provard.

Betty was the last survivor of her family.

Betty graduated from Hagerstown High School with the class of 1945.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.

During her working years, Betty worked at her father's dairy (Excesler Dairy) in Frederick. She also worked at Hagerstown Bookbinding, Horn Air Conditioning, and Fridinger Plumbing and Heating.

In her retirement years, Betty was a volunteer at the Commission on Aging doing income taxes for the elderly.

Betty is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Stubits; cousin, Betty Lee Smith; brother-in-law, Jerry Boward; sister-in-law, Teresa Stubits and her daughter, Diana; a niece, Sharon Cullison and her brother Ike and sister, Paula Jean; nephew, Russell and wife Cherie Boward and their children Elysha, Ryan and Jenna, Joe Boward and wife Denise and their daughter Jordan.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Arlene, Violet, Louise.

There will be graveside services in private for the family. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
