Veteran Airman 1st Class Brent Evan Koontz, 391st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-10, age 23, died Friday, March 16, 2012, in Hagerstown.
Brent served in the U.S. Air Force. He was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and later was stationed in Las Vegas.
He was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School.
Brent was proceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth L. and Mary V. (Genny) Koontz and paternal grandfather, Charles H. Socks.
Brent is survived by his mother, Patricia "Patty" I. (Koontz) Socks and father, Kenneth "Kenny" R. Socks; a daughter, Harmony I. Koontz of Hagerstown; a sister, Kayla (Welch) Hawbaker of Clear Spring; three brothers, Dustin T. Socks, Mac R. Socks and Kenneth P. Socks, all of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Connie and Bob Barkdoll and Memaw, Connie Baker, all of Clear Spring; three nephews; three nieces; many aunts; uncles; and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Private services will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Md.
Brent is our hero and will be sadly missed.
