Calvin Newton "Newt" Gregory Jr., 67, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at his home.
Born Aug. 8, 1949, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Jean (Sensel) Gregory of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Calvin N. Gregory Sr.
Newt was a free-spirited man who loved the open road. His passion for new adventures led him to a fulfilling career as a truck driver for 44 years. He was a dedicated employee and won the safety award for his many years of safe driving.
He had a great love for country music, Western movies and his truck.
He had a vast collection of memorabilia reflecting his passions, which he spent many hours enjoying with family and friends.
Newt had a unique personality, filled with love and laughter.
He had a great love for his family and his pets. He openly gave love to everyone, not always because he had to, but because that's who he was.
This is not the end of his journey, it is just the beginning. Newt will continue to travel the open roads of our beautiful country in the hearts of each of his family members and friends.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of more than 38 years, Mary J. (Stevenson) Gregory; two daughters, Dawn Grimm and Tawn Gregory; and a son, Sean Gregory, all of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Wayne Shives of Hancock, Md., and Melany and Josh Shives of Hagerstown; a great-grandson, Rylan Shives; a sister, Betty Kelley; two brothers, Charles Gregory and David Gregory of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; and three sons, Newtie and Kevin Gregory, and Shane Ward.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Friends will be received two hours prior at the funeral home.
