Charles D. Wantz, 96, of Naples, Fla., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.
Born June 2, 1914 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Hiram B. and Vivian E. Wantz.
Charles was a resident of Naples since 1988 after relocating from Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and the General Motors Institute. Mr. Wantz was a retired General Motors sales executive.
He was past president of Phi Sigma Kappa Alumni Association, a member of the Country Club of Naples and the Gulf Shores General Motors Retired Executives Club.
Always active in his college's programs, Mr. Wantz was a life member of Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Scholastic Fraternity, as well as the Maryland Society and the Founders Society, honorary University of Maryland organizations.
Mr. Wantz is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary Garner Wantz; two daughters, Barbara Wantz, Nancy L. Johnson and husband, Byron; two grandsons, Matthew C. Johnson and wife, Alejandra, Charles Evan Sopko; a granddaughter, Ginger L. Duke and husband, Michael; two great-grandsons, Cristian and Sebastian Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Catherine Duke; two brothers, Richard G. Wantz and wife, Mary Helen, Robert A. Wantz and wife, Cassandra, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hiram B. Wantz.
As requested by the deceased, there will be no public memorial service.
A graveside service will be conducted at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
