Charles Monroe Cronauer, 83, of Hagerstown, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born February 3, 1932, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Paul T. and Evelyn C. Anderson Cronauer.
Charles was a graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was a veteran of the Korean War in the United States Air Force.
Charlie worked as a fire marshal for (Washington County) State of Maryland for 33 years, retiring in 1999.
Charles was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Boonsboro. He was a member of the F.O.P and Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42. Charles was also a stamp enthusiast.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Margaret R. Russell Cronauer; a son, Charles M. Cronauer Jr. of Towson, MD; two daughters, Susanne Mabini and husband, Ron, of Marietta, GA, and Linda Cronauer of Hagerstown; two stepdaughters, Meg Miller Shane and husband, Ron, of Berwyn Heights, MD, and Suzanne Best and husband, David, of Kilmarnock, Va; three stepsons, Mark Miller and wife, Mary Ann, of Chambersburg, Michael Miller and wife, Janet, of Felton, DE, and Steve Miller and wife, Susan, of Gaithersburg; a brother, Robert Cronauer and wife, Sue, of Washington; two sisters, Alice Saunders and husband, Vincent, of Waynesboro, and Miriam Topper and husband, Leo, of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 2, 2015, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lappans Road, Boonsboro, MD.
