Charles Edwin Slick Jr., 83 of Hagerstown MD passed away on May 4, 2023.
Ed was born on June 30, 1939, to Charles E. Slick and Grace (Baxter) Slick of Hagerstown. After graduating from South High in 1957 he joined the Navy and served 4 years as an Aviation Machinist Mate. His favorite duty station was Hawaii which he talked of fondly all his adult life. He married Colleen (Ford) in 1963. Colleen passed in November and he missed her terribly having been together for 59 years. They had Chuck in 1964 and Maria in 1965, whom Ed bragged about often, being so proud of them. Family meant more to him than anything and he gave his the wonderful life he felt they deserved.
Ed retired from Mack Truck in 1998 after 36 years. He also volunteered for the Coast Guard Auxillary for over 35 years doing numerous safety patrols and boat inspections on the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River as well as teaching boating safety courses. Ed was an avid fisherman and crabber. He and Colleen spent much time in Chincoteague, VA at their camp. If you wanted his attention all you had to do was say the word, “boat”! Ed was very giving and fun loving and was an instant friend to every person and dog he ever met.
Ed loved to travel having been all over the world. His favorite places being Hawaii, Ireland and Alaska. He went on over 40 cruises with Colleen and other family.
Ed was predeceased by his wife, Colleen and son, Chuck. He is survived by daughter Maria (Averill); grandsons, David, Matthew, Daniel, Anthony and Ray; great-granddaughter Irina; brother, Terry; as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
