Clyde William Plunkard, 87, of Boonsboro, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his home.
Born July 22, 1928 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Felix Lorenzo Plunkard, Sr. and Ella Mae (Horman) Plunkard.
Clyde was a member of the American Truck Historical Society and the NRA.
He started driving trucks from a young age, starting his own trucking company, Plunkard and Sons Inc., in 1949. Clyde retired in 2014.
Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Catherine (Miller) Plunkard; five children, Shelby Beaver and husband Paul of Burkittsville, Allen Lee Plunkard and wife Kimberly of Boonsboro, Randall Plunkard and wife Wilma of Hagerstown, Debora Gaudin of Boonsboro, Curtis Plunkard and companion Marian of Needmore; two brothers, Franklin L, Plunkard and wife Helen, Felix L. Plunkard, Jr.; a sister, Emily V. (Plunkard) Firor; six grandchildren, Amanda Gaudin, Breanna Gaudin, Caitlin Gaudin, Curtis Plunkard, Jr., Justin Plunkard, Megan Plunkard; ten great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Madison, Brentyn, Luke, Liam, Oakley, Sawyer, March, Nixon, and Payton; several close friends; and his loving dogs, Mynci and Bobby.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three siblings, Grace R. Hauver, George E. Plunkard, Louisa M. Plunkard; and three half-siblings, Mildred L. Crawford, Anna E. Brunner Sears, and Dorothy P. Sears.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Jonathan Laye officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
