Colin Vladimir Ploscaru, 46, of Hagerstown, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
Born on December 11, 1974 in Washington, DC, Colin was the son of Marina Magdelena (Caileanu) Ploscaru and the late Ovidiu Ploscaru.
Colin attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he studied History. He became an IT Consultant and worked for Planet Technologies for eleven years. He was active in local government, having served on the City Planning Committee in Hagerstown. Colin was the driving force behind the establishment of Hagerstown's first community garden, from planning, to fundraising, and finally seeing operations get off the ground. He was also a frequent guest on the local TV program, The Flip Side, where he enjoyed discussing a variety of political and economic topics.
Colin served in the Army Reserve as part of the 314th Infantry Brigade, Battalion 1 in Chambersburg. His interest were very broad- he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking and mountain climbing. As an amateur artist at Frederick High School, one of his paintings and ceramic pieces earned him First Prize and were displayed at the Maryland State House.
In addition to his mother, Colin is survived by his son, Drake Ploscaru; his sister, Corina Ploscaru; his former wife, Shawna Lee; and his companion, Sam Massey.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. A reception for friends and family will be hosted at The Fountainhead Country Club (www.fhcc1924.com) on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The National Park Foundation at www.nationalparks.org.
