Our loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Curt R. Dudda, died May 5, 2022 at Meritus Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Inge Osswald Dudda, his daughters Lynn Dudda of Hagerstown, Lisa Jansson (Dean) of Charlotte, NC, and Barbara Sworden (Jim) of Toledo, OH, his sisters Marlene Holter of Malvern, PA and Annemay Kelso of FL, grandchildren Nicholas Jansson, Benjamin Jansson, Mitchell Sworden and Carly Sworden as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Curt was born on January 19, 1934 and grew up in Philadelphia, PA where his late parents, Curt A. and Pauline Dudda, immigrants from Germany, operated a bakery While at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School he was on the football team, was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, and in 1955 graduated with a degree in Economics. He served in the US Army, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, where he met his wife. His working career brought him to New York City, Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, and in 1974 the family moved to Hagerstown where he was vice president at Maryland Metals. Subsequently his career took him to Toledo, OH and Washington, DC, before returning to Maryland Metals. He retired in 1999. Curt was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Hagerstown Community Concert Association Board and the Hagerstown Rotary Club for 40 years including serving as president. He volunteered at Hagerstown Community College, the Commission on Aging and the Governor’s Council on Management and Productivity. Curt enjoyed playing golf and tennis and was an armchair fan of all sports. He belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church, was a member of its council including president, and most recently was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Funkstown. Curt’s family members are grateful for the compassionate care he received from the doctors, nurses, chaplain and supporting clinical observers at Meritus Hospital. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in memory of Curt to Meritus Health Care Foundation,(meritushealth.com) Rotary Foundation,(rotary.org) or the charity of one’s choice. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 11AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 24 E Baltimore Street, Funkstown, MD with Reverend Lee Brumback officiating. Grave site services will be conducted at 2PM at Rest Haven Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded. Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 11 from 6 to 8PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Hagerstown and also one half hour prior to the service at the church.
