Curtis Westley Uzelac, 68, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023, with his family nearby.
Born February 14, 1955, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles W. Uzelac and the late Catherine L. (Hastings) Uzelac. and son-in-law of the late C. Nevin and Clara Frey.
Curtis was a 1973 graduate from Smithsburg High School. Immediately following his graduation he began working his first job at Baker and Wibberly. Over the years he was a trusted employee for various establishments such as Fairchild, Jameson Door, Jerr-Dan, and Waynesboro Design. He was also an engineering tool designer for Volvo Powertrain.
Curtis was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was known as the Pancake Master at church pancake breakfasts and delivered the children's message during the holiday seasons. He also designed and built parade floats for the church as well as for various organizations such as 4-H and the Ag Expo and Fair.
He was also a member of the Boy Scouts, past member of the PPR, served as President for the Washington County Youth Market Sale, and was a member for 38 years and leader of Washington County's 4-H Rabbit, Cavy, and Poultry Club. Curtis was also a volunteer leader for various other 4-H Clubs.
Some of Curtis' pastimes include gardening, tending to animals, fishing, and just about any activity outside. He was a coach for youth wrestling and was a past North High School Band Booster.
Curtis was a blood donor for the American Red Cross who donated over 17 gallons.
However Curtis' most favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nevalene M. (Frey) Uzelac; their three daughters, Shannon Uzelac, Rhonda Uzelac, and Angela (Uzelac) Koontz and husband James, Jr.; three granddaughters, Alivia, Caitlin, and Shelby Koontz; sister, Caroline Buhrman and husband Bill; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; brothers-in-law Charles Frey, Jr. and wife Jane, and Joseph Frey and wife Debbie; and sister-in-law, Tamara Frey.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Rd, Hagerstown, MD 21742, with Rev. Dionne Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
Two visitations will be held Monday, June 5, 2023, at Rest Haven Funeral Home from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
