Cyril Ogden Simmonds, 89, of Hagerstown, passed away, Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at home surrounded by family.
Born July 9, 1930 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Cyril was the son of the late David Simmonds and Viola Saunders. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Simmonds, and sisters Shernette Singh and Carmen Brown.
At the age of two, Cyril migrated from Cuba to Jamaica with his mother, brother, and sisters. As a young man he learned the machinist trade and was considered to be an expert in the field. While living in Hagerstown, Cyril was an active member of Gateway Church.
Cyril is survived by his loving wife, Inez as well as his children Jean Whyte-Hall and husband Delroy of Maryland; Doreen Simmonds Brown and husband Ainsley of Massachusetts; Joan Simmonds-Fichera and husband Alfred of Massachusetts; and Colleen Daly of Texas. He is also survived by his brother in law, David Singh; and his sister in law, Madge Simmonds. He is also survived by six grand children, nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews who considered Cyril to be a second father.
A viewing will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20 at 10:00 AM and a graveside service will follow at 11:00 with Pastor Ray Sewell officiating.
