David Earl Woodward

David Earl Woodward, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at his home.

Born April 6, 1926 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late, Charles and Fannie Susan (Sours) Woodward. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by two sons, Peter and Hans Woodward; two brothers and their wives, Claude and Chloe Woodward, Garland and Alma Woodward; one sister and her husband, Clara and Winfield Moyer.

Mr. Woodward retired from the Washington County Public School System where he was a special education teacher.

He attended Zion Assembly of God Church, Maugansville and Bridge of Life, Hagerstown. He was in Brethren Volunteer Service for a number of years and led work camps to help rebuild after the war. He also served for three years as a missionary teacher in Nigeria, Africa through The Church of the Brethren. He truly led a life of service and helping others.

He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines during WW II.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Eleonore Friederike (Behrendt) Woodward; three children, Christa Coss and husband Dwayne, Harlan Woodward and Dagmar Yount and husband Bill, all of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be conducted at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastors, Joe Quesenberry and Stew Torres officiating.

Friends will be received one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
