David Toliver "Tolly" West Jr., 92, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 17, 1919, in Anderson, S.C., he was the son of the late David Toliver and Myrtie (Smith) West.
He worked at Jamison Door Co. for 37 years, retiring as president in 1982. He continued to serve on the board of directors until 2000, when he was designated director emeritus.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy at a naval air station in North Carolina for two years and two years in the South Pacific with the rank of chief petty officer.
He was past elder at Hagerstown Presbyterian Church, also serving as superintendent of the Sunday school and president of the Men's Bible Class, later moving to Covenant United Presbyterian Church.
He was past chairman of the Washington County Respiratory Disease Council. He was past president of the Hagerstown Manufacturers Bureau and also served as a board member of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland State Manufacturers Association.
He was a past member of the Elks Club and the Hagerstown Rotary Club. He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary.
He is survived by one daughter, Carol West Barker of Hagerstown; three sons, David T. West III of Hagerstown, Steven B. West and wife, Jan, of Frederick, Md., and William M. West and wife, Donna, of Boonsboro; grandchildren, Brent, Angie, Julie, Erin, Megan, Lindsay, Shelley, Lacey, Daniel and Davey; and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Renee, Owen, Wyatt and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Constance Brothers West of Washington, N.C.; and his sister, Margaret West Fant of Lumberton, Texas.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
