Delores House-Shaffer

Delores N "Dot" (Lindsay) House-Shaffer, 86, a resident of McConnellsburg and former resident of Smithsburg, died, Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at her home.

Born February 23, 1929 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clarence, Sr. and Iva (Miller) Lindsay. She spent the first fifty years of her life in Maryland.

Mrs. Shaffer attended Hagerstown schools.

She and her first husband, the late Richard E. House, Sr. were married for 33 years. Mr. House died September 1983.

Mrs. Shaffer worked for 20 some years for printing companies in Hagerstown and Smithsburg. She then went to work for Mack Trucks, where she retired in 1989.

She was a member the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 649, AARP, National Rifle Association, Life member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 561, Life member of Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6241, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, Hopewell Senior Center, Arizona Memorial Museum Association. She was very active in volunteer work, Fulton County Library, Fulton County Fair, over 25 years for AARP Tax Aide Program in Chambersburg and McConnellsburg and lots of volunteer work for Cystic Fibrosis raising thousands of dollars for research. She served on the Bulldog Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, Hagerstown, and the Maryland Board of Directors for Cystic Fibrosis, she was the 1973 Volunteer of the Year for C/F Frederick/Washington County Branch. Maryland C/F 1974, Volunteer of the Year. Chambersburg Tax Aide Program Volunteer of the Year for 2008. She also enjoyed hunting and traveling on buses and ships.

In addition to her parents and first husband she also was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Y. Zeigler in 1997 and a son, Ricky House, Jr. in 1980.

She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Shaffer whom she married in October of 1997. three grandchildren, one very close grandchild, David Englert; one great grandchild.

Funeral services will conducted on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 P.M.
