Dennis Rale McMillen, 45, of Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center, after a longtime residence at the W.M.H.C.

Born October 31, 1971 in Galion, Ohio, he was the beloved son of Linda Goddard of Hagerstown and Robert McMillen and his wife, Louise (Dennis' other mother), of Frederick. Dennis had an all-encompassing light within him. It was a great privilege for his parents to have him as a son.

Dennis attended Fairway School in Bucyrus, OH., and was a 1991 graduate of Rock Creek School in Frederick. Dennis participated and won many medals in Special Olyimpics.

He enjoyed working alongside his father doing construction all over the country.

Dennis is affiliated with Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. He was a history buff and had a special interest in the Civil War. Even though Dennis moved to Maryland from Ohio, he still continued to follow Ohio State football and basketball. He was a longtime fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He liked wrestling and was befriended by John Rambo and his training school in Hagerstown. He was a big fan of the band, Kix, and loved to sing karaoke.

In addition to his parents and other mother, Dennis is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Alice Goddard; three uncles, Tom Goddard and wife Danna, Dennis W. McMillen and wife Thim, Chris McMillen and wife Bobbie; many cousins; extended family; and friends too numerous to name. Dennis touched many people with his special ability and spirit throughout his life. He will be missed by longtime friends, Rob Wolfe, George Buckheit; and guardian angel, Jeremy Osteen.

Dennis was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William Goddard; and his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Arlene McMillen.

A graveside service will be held in Rest Haven Cemetery at 2:00pm on Tues., Jan. 17, 2017 with Rev. Jerry Lowans and Chaplain Richard Bower officiating. A celebration potluck will follow at 2:30pm at the Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 PA Ave., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dennis' name to offset burial expenses to Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 PA. Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
