Dillard Henry Jackson was born October 1, 1934 in Blythe, California, to Henry Jackson and Celesta Cunningham. As a widower his father married Vassie Lee Jackson and she became the mother he knew. Dillards family relocated to Bakersfield, California where he attended and graduated from Bakersfield High School. It was in high school were he met and later married his wife Eva Dillard in 1956.
Dillard served in the US Army in 1955-1958 were he earned the title of All Army Boxing Champion. Upon leaving the army Dillard moved to Los Angeles, California with his wife Eva and this is where they were blessed with two daughters. He became a Senior Gardner for the City of Los Angeles and remained there until retirement in 1989.
After retirement Dillard and Eva moved back to their roots in Bakersfield, Ca. were the majority of their family reside. It was there where Dillard continued his hobby of being a CB radio handler, his handle was, the one-eyed snake. He obtained this name after the loss of vision in his left eye. This occurred during the time when he was a professional boxer in the 1960s. He also enjoyed photography and turned this hobby into a small business for several years. He and his good friend James Hill had the pleasure of photographing many special occasions such as, weddings, birthdays and other memorable events.
Dillard Jackson joined Southside Seventh-day Adventist church in 2000 where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. During his time at Southside he served on the Deacon board and was honored by the board for his dedication and service.
Dillard is preceded in death by his father Henry Jackson, his brothers, Clifford, Harold, Lawrence, Edward, Vernell and James. Sisters: Celesta, Osa Lee, Daaiyah and Margie,
Dillard leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 62 years Eva Jackson, his mother Vassie Lee Jackson, his daughters Traci L. Holiwell and Karyn D. Tolson, along with his two son-in laws Edwin L. Holiwell and Larry D. Tolson, Sr. Two sisters, Barbara Cruise and Marie Jackson, one brother Andre Jackson. Fourteen grandchildren, Lawrence Tolson, Perry Tolson, Larry Tolson, Jr., Lance Tolson, LaTise Williams, LaKita Tolson (deceased), Lisa Hardley, LaShawn Taylor, Lyric Tolson, Leah Tolson, LaRon Tolson, Makayla Holiwell, Kamren Holiwell, and Kaylee Tolson. Ten great grandchildren, Khamari Tolson, Lawren Tolson,London Lyons, Logan Lyons, Perry Jones, Tracy Edwards, MacKenzie Tolson, Brayden Tolson, Lawrence Tolson Jr. and Landon Tolson and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
There are no words to explain how greatly he will be missed by his family and friends. In the words of Dillard H. Jackson talking on his CB radio back in the day he would say to all of us now see you later "Good Buddies".
