Donald Charles Sommerfeld

Donald Charles Sommerfeld, 91, of Hagerstown, passed away, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Charlotte Hall, Md.
Born December 31, 1927 in Fredericksburg, Va. he was the son of the late, Charles Frank and Eugenia (Kaiser) Sommerfeld. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Wanda June (Knight) Sommerfeld whom he married September 9, 1950.
Mr. Sommerfeld was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion and the Alsatia Club, All of Hagerstown. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He was a US Navy veteran of WW II.
He retired as a custom wood worker, cabinet maker.
Mr. Sommerfeld is survived by three children, D. Wayne Sommerfeld and wife, Mary Ellen, Dennis Sommerfeld and wife, Kendra and Diane Goans and husband, Samuel; twelve grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren and his friend, Dennis Molloy.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the US Naval Honor Guard
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to services.
