Donnie Light

Donnie Elwood Light, 87, of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away on February 4, 2024 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born on May 12, 1936 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles Elwood Light and Minnie Florence Oberball Light. Donnie faithfully and dutifully served in the United Sates Military. Donnie worked for the city cab company for many years as  driver before continuing his work as dispatcher. Donnie helped our community serving as a member of the Washington County Fire Police, helping with incident control and providing protection to first responders. Donnie had a great talent for music and enjoyed every opportunity to play the guitar with his son Vernie and other friends and family. He also enjoyed tuning in to the occasional sports game.
Donnie is survived by his children, Donna Netz, Leanne Sampson, Brenda Harne, Vernie Light, Ginger Nichols, Lorraine Gordon, Angela Harne, David Kline and John Kline. He is also survived by one sister Arlene Flora and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as his friend and caregiver Barbara Moore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Marie Light (2014), daughter, Linda Kline, brother, James Russell Light and Anna Mae Anderson.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742. A funeral service will follow at 11 am. Reverend Jim Gross will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
