Dorothy June (Bowers) Hammond, 92, of Hagerstown, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
Born November 3, 1924 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late, Russell J. and Alma (Olsen) Bowers. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by one brother, Victor "Bus" Bowers.
Mrs. Hammond had worked as a secretary for Potomac Edison and Retired as the secretary to the Chief of Police for the City of Hagerstown.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown where she was active in all aspects of the church and a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Women's Garden Club and the Girls Club both of Hagerstown.
Mrs. Hammond is survived by one son, Lawrence R. Hammond and wife Cathy of Hagerstown; one daughter, Carol LuAnn Hammond of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Harrison R. Hammond and wife Victoria R. Hammond M.D. of Catonsville and Allison O. Hammond of Baltimore; one great granddaughter on the way; one sister, Mildred Cannon of Florence, S.C.; four nieces and one nephew. She is also survived by her loving and caring cousins, Eddie and Peggy bowers, Walter Roney, Clyde Roney, Jr. and Jeanne Lee and her great grand dogs, Sweet Pea, Manny and Ninja.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. with Rev. Richard A. Kroll officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-7 P.M.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to First Christian Church and or Homewood Retirement Benevolent Fund.
