Dr. Jack Arden Gray, DDS, 94, of Hagerstown, passed away, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at his home.Born October 24, 1929, in Hagerstown he was the son of the late, Francis Lyle and Elsie Violet (Reed) Gray. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Henrietta E. (Baker) Gray.Dr. Gray was a 1947 graduate of Hagerstown High School and graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1954.He was a US Army veteran and a lifetime member of the Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion. After his military service he began his dental practice in Hagerstown and retired in 1995.Dr. Gray was an active and past member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown where he was Sunday School Superintendent and served as Church Council President. For the last 23 years he has been a member of First Christian Church also of Hagerstown where he was active in D.I.A.-D.I.R.T. His other memberships included, the NRA, Washington County Dental Association where he served as treasure, the American Dental Association and he was a 60-year member of Friendship Lodge No .84 A.F. and A.M.Dr. Gray is survived by two children, Mark A. Gray and wife, Ann and Marcia G. Goodrich and husband Stephen; five grandchildren, Rebecca Shoemaker, Daniel Gray, William Gray, Benjamin Goodrich, and Casey Goodrich; four great grandchildren, Dawson Shoemaker, Tanner Shoemaker, Raelynn Shoemaker and Opal Goodrich; sister-in-law, Pam Stotler and her grandson, Ashton Redmond; devoted caregiver, Wilson Barklow; childhood friend, Dick Beckley; walking buddy, Phil Rador and Zoe and friend and neighbor, Justin Bowers.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Dr. William Gilroy officiating.Inurnment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery Columbarium.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Gray's name to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 W. Washington St. Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
