Edward Joseph Foust, 94, formerly of Hagerstown and Smithsburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023 at Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland. He was the husband of the late Nancy Jane (Callihan) Foust (2022).
Born on June 25, 1929 in Windber, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph Cloyd Foust and Freda Jeanette (Frye) Foust. Ed served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion in Hagerstown, MD and the VFW in Greencastle, PA. He worked until his retirement at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown as a machinist. A family man, Ed took his wife and kids “up home” to Windber every year for holiday parties and summer picnics to enjoy happy times with his brothers and sisters and their families. Winter months he and Nancy headed to the Palms Estates Retirement Community in Florida where he was a member of the Estates Pickers Band. Ed was a talented musician and singer who played the guitar and banjo. He enjoyed woodworking and the family is fortunate to have many of his handcrafted items as keepsakes. One of his greatest joys in life was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his children Cindy Amorati and husband Joe, Frederick, MD, Brenda Arnett, Smithsburg, MD, and Edward Foust, Jr. and wife, Bernadette, Lourdes, France; sisters Shirley Deyarmin and Mary Manges, five grandchildren, Drew Arnett and wife, Amanda, Scott Arnett, Julia Prichard and husband, Bryan, Natalie Petersen and husband, Corbett, Olivia White and husband Carey; eight great-grandchildren, Eliason Arnett, Aiden Arnett, Addison Arnett, Landon Prichard, Leah Prichard, Beckett Petersen, Ivy White, and Baylor Petersen. He leaves behind a large extended family.
In addition to his wife Nancy and his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Richard, Robert, George and John Roy Foust; sisters Alice Cook, Ethel Figard, LaRue Price and Francis Harclerode.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland. A funeral service will be held at 11am at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Cook. Interment with military honors will follow provided by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown, MD.
