Eleanor A. Lantzy

June 24, 1924 — May 27, 2015

Eleanor A. Lantzy, age 90, of Williamsport, MD (previously of Northern Cambria, PA) passed away, Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at her home in Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport, Maryland.

Born June 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Anna Yeager and R. Harry Kelly of Hastings, PA. Eleanor also was preceded in death by her husband, attorney John P. Lantzy of Northern Cambria, PA and sisters; Clara Semelsberger, Edna Hindmarsh, Ethel Nagle, Helen Durbin, Ruth Nippes and Agnes K. Gwynn; brothers, attorney William P. Kelly and Harry J. Kelly.

Eleanor was a graduate of Hastings High School in Pennsylvania and a 1949 graduate of Penn State University with a BA in Liberal Arts. Following her college graduation she married attorney John P. Lantzy of Spangler, PA (now called Northern Cambria). Eleanor was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a private pilot during WWII flying on liaison and spotting missions. She was the Head Librarian at the first Barnesboro Public Library which led to the development of the Cambria County Library System. Eleanor founded the Cresson Lake Playhouse in 1974. In the same year, Eleanor started Applause Unlimited, an organization that supports the theater. In 2014, Cresson Lake Playhouse celebrated it's 40th anniversary and dedicated its first production, "I Remember Mamma" to Eleanor. In September 2011, Eleanor was inducted to the Cresson Lake Playhouse Hall of Fame for her dedication to the theater arts and for achieving her goal to promote and bring live theater to Cambria County.

Eleanor was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art; President of the Women's Golf Association at Cambria Hills and President of the Friends of the Barnesboro Public Library. She served as a member of the Board of the Cambria County library System and member of Focus group for Northern Cambria Public Library.

Eleanor served in various theater organizations throughout the state of Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania Council on the arts; theater Panel; President, Theater Association of Pennsylvania ; Chairman of the State of Art Hearings for Cambria County in Ebensburg, PA.

Eleanor was inducted in the Northern Cambria Community Hall of Fame in 2014. She was a honorary member of women Educators, Delta Kappa Gamma; National Honor Society of Penn Cambria High School; received the Elbert R. Smith award for Service to Community Theater and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Annual Recognition for Volunteer Service to Arts.

Eleanor was an active member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Northern Cambria and served as their Treasurer of the Holy Cross Parish Council.

Eleanor also served as the Treasurer of the Spangler Community Centennial Celebration in 1993.

Eleanor is survived by her sons, Tyler Lantzy and wife Terre of Louisville, Colorado and Jack Lantzy and wife Nancy Strine of Shepherdstown, WV; her daughter, Chloe Lantzy of Dushore, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Free Karma Ryan of Johnstown, NY, Gavin Lantzy and wife LuLu of Denver, Colorado and Ross Lantzy of Denver, Colorado.

At a later date a Memorial Service will be officiated by her nephew, Father John G. Durbin at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Northern Cambria and final resting will be in St. Bernards cemetery in Hastings, PA.
