Eleanora Rebecca Miller

February 4, 1918 — March 5, 2013

Eleanora Rebecca Grove Miller, 95, passed away March 5, 2013. She lived on Jefferson Blvd in Hagerstown since 1950. Eleanora was born on February 4, 1918 on South Potomac Street in Hagerstown. She was the daughter of Lola Arnold (from Burkittsville) and William Washington Grove. Eleanora was preceded in death by her parents and her five older siblings: Beatrice Grove Ringer, Helen Grove Dare, Willard E. Grove, Victor M. Grove, and George A. Grove. Her love of traveling began as a child when she joined her Aunt Vernie and cousins on trips to Niagara Falls, Atlantic City, and various other places throughout the East Coast. In 1940 she married John Harlan Miller of Chewsville, MD. During WWII, before he was shipped overseas, she followed him to Brooklyn, NY, Dearborn, Michigan, and Norfolk, VA. After the war, they settled on Jefferson Blvd. and raised two children who survive her: Colleen Rebecca Miller Stone (husband, James W. Stone) and Joseph Wayne Miller of Hagerstown. Her husband preceded her in death in 2003. Eleanora was a great homemaker and very proud of her home, her garden, cooking, and canning. She enjoyed playing cards and as a senior citizen was quite fond of BINGO. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church. In earlier years she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her pride and joy, granddaughter Betsey Hayes Miles ( husband Braden Miles) of Moneta, VA.She is also are survived by sisters-in-law, Glenna Miller and Doris Miller of Hagerstown, nieces, Barbara Grove and Mary Grove Reed of California and two very thoughtful and wonderful cousins, Jeanne Ashburn Whitmer and Nancy Ashburn Swanson. Miller family nieces and nephews who survive are Beverly Miller, Fred and Phillip Baker, Lynn Corridon and Suzanne Miller, Sharon Wilson, Deborah Wagner, Brian Delosier, Daniel Brechbill, Janet Vanneri, Perry and Priscilla Miller. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. Hagerstown, MD. The Reverend Dr. Kenneth Fizer of the Shiloh Methodist Church will officiate. Grave side services will follow at Rest Haven. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Rest Haven.
