Elizabeth Ann Bowers

Elizabeth Ann Bowers passed away on September 5, 2023 at Somerford House in Hagerstown, MD.  

Born April 13, 1934 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. Carroll, Sr. and Hollis Lee (Grove) Carroll.  She was the loving wife of the late Richard L. Bowers, to whom she was married for 66 years before his passing in 2021. 

She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, Class of 1952, and a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hagerstown. 

 In addition to being a wonderful mother and homemaker, she was the bookkeeper for 30 years at Bowers Appraisal Service.   

She is survived by three sons, William R. Bowers, Patrick B. Bowers and wife, Mikkicia, and Michael C. Bowers and wife, Marisa.  She is also survived by grandchildren Timothy W.R. Bowers, Caleb Bowers, Catherine Bowers, Thea Bowers, Andrew Bowers, Joseph Bowers and Nicholas Bowers.  

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Ann Bowers, and sister, Carline P. (Poffenberger) Sumek. 

Special thanks to all current and former staff members and caregivers at Somerford House, Choice Staffing, Inc., Meritus Hospital, and Hospice of Washington County.  All of you, too numerous to mention individually, took the best care of mom over the past two years, and her three sons will be eternally grateful for all the love and comfort you provided in her time of need.   

A private burial and graveside service will be held for the immediate family at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School at 218 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD, St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD, and/or Hospice of Washington County.
