Margaret "Ellen" (Watson) Rowland, 67, of Hagerstown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at her home.
Born July 18, 1950, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Jane (Snyder) Watson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, David Watson.
Ellen was a 1969 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She was a longtime North Hagerstown community columnist for the Herald-Mail Media, as well as a homemaker.
She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg and enjoyed attending Paramount Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown. Ellen was an Auxiliary member of the Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
She enjoyed cooking and had many cookbooks to aid her. She loved animals, especially her late Rottweiler's and Chihuahua's. She leaves behind three faithful dogs, Lucy, Lexy, and Bindy.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Charles "Charlie" Luther Rowland, Sr; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Luther Rowland, Jr. and wife Lori of Pheonix, AZ., and Christopher Lee Rowland of Southern California; and five grandchildren who she loved very much, Kaleb Rowland, Collin Rowland, Logan Rowland, Lindsay Rowland, and Ian Rowland.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Morris Frock American Legion, Post No. 42, 405 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, with Chaplain Richard Hembrock officiating.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service and again following for a reception.
Inurnment will be private and held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ellen's name to Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
