Ellis Charles Morris, III, "Biggy", 65, of Hagerstown, went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center.
Born April 8, 1951, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ellis C. Morris, Jr. and Dolly R. (Itnyre) Morris.
Biggy was a 1969 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. He studied accounting at Hagerstown Business College. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He earned a purple heart and several other medals for his valor.
He retired after 16 years of service as a correctional officer at MCI. He also owned and operated E.C. Morris Painting and worked part time at Food Lion.
He was a member of Paramount Brethren In Christ Church, where he served on several committees. Biggy was a former member of Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42 as well as 2 bowling leagues. He was a member of several area Alcoholics Anonymous chapters. He was proud to have 31 years of sobriety. Biggy was also a fisherman and was an avid Dodgers and Green Bay Packers fan.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jessie Edward Morris; a sister, Phyllis Jean Morris; and two step brothers, Woodrow "Chuck" and Rick Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Judith "Judy" (Cross) Morris; a daughter, Destiny Lynn Morris; a stepson, Robert "Rob" Kline and wife Chris; a step-daughter, Sherry Thompson and husband Dave; a brother, Art Morris and wife Audrey; four sisters, Mildred "Millie" Bell and husband Nolan, Ann Frizzell and husband Robert "Bob" Wiebel, Jr., Jane Nickerson and husband Terry, Melody Minnick and husband Gregory; four granddaughters, Amber Kline, Desirae Lewis, Amanda Kline, Sheanna Lewis; a great-grandson, Gannon Michael Lewis; a brother-in-law that was more like a brother, Jessie Hasenbuhler; several nieces; nephews; friends; and his faithful cat, Rain. Biggy was proud of his family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 PA. Ave., Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Brown's Cemetery, in Sabillasville, with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 7-9pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
