Frederick Rueben "Fred" Knapp, IV
Frederick Rueben "Fred" Knapp, IV, 70, of Hedgesville, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Berkeley Medical Center.
Born June 8, 1943 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frederick Rueben Knapp, III and Marie J. (Lindsey) Knapp.
Fred was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School. After school he joined the military and made it his career for 27 years. After retirement he worked in security and in the restaurant business.
He was a former member of Haven Lutheran Church and the Williamsport American Legion. He helped the Legion with chaplain work by delivering bibles and flags to families. Fred also enjoyed camping and fishing.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Ridgeway) Knapp; two sons; two daughters; one step son; two step daughters; a brother, John Knapp and wife Bonnie of York, PA; two sisters, Judy Koontz and husband Jack, Peggy Dibert and husband Gene, both of Hagerstown; numerous grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two faithful dogs, Spike and Kony Ann.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment will follow with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.
Friends will be received on Friday from 7-9pm at the funeral home.
