Gary E. Thomas, Sr.

Gary E. "Tippy" Thomas, Sr., 78, of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Doey's House, in Hagerstown.

Born March 28, 1940 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Walter and Thelma (Hughes) Thomas.

Gary was a 1958 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He was employed by Pangborn Corp. and Antietam Pest Control.

He was a lifetime member of the Goodwill Athletic Club. Gary was an avid golfer and belonged to the Beaver Creek Country Club. He umpired and managed little league baseball at American Little League. He also refereed Junior Basketball at E. Russel Hicks, Jr. High School.

Gary was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and New York Yankees baseball team.

He is survived by two children, a son, Gary E. Thomas, Jr. and wife Debbie of Fairplay; a daughter, Tammie S. Thomas of Hagerstown; mother of his two children, Betty J. Thomas; two granddaughters, Courtney Howard and Katie Thomas, both of Phoenix, AZ; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Morgan, Parker, and Patrick, also of Arizona; five sisters, Beverly Seilhamer, Yvonne Young, Shirley Young, Gloris Delauter, Doris Martin; and a brother, Bud Thomas.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Thomas.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 PA Ave., Hagerstown. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary's name to Doey's House, 11370 Caring Pathway Ln., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
