Gary Wayne Carter

March 3, 1943 — August 27, 2016

Gary Wayne Carter, 73, of Hagerstown, passed away, Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore after a five year courageous battle with heart disease.

Born March 3, 1943 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late, Howard F. and Helen Marie (Caroll) Carter. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by a special aunt, Thelma Kennedy.

Mr. Carter retired with 38 years of service as an inspector for the Pangborn Corporation then worked for the Washington County Board of Education and the City of Hagerstown.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, The AmVets and the L.O.O. Moose Lodge, all of Hagerstown.

Mr. Carter had served as president and vice president of the Northern Middle School Band Association and served as vice president of the Northern Middle School P.T.A. He was a former assistant baseball coach with the American Little League.

He loved vacationing with his family in Ocean City and loved working around the home.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Marie (Wiles) Carter; three children, Tricia Lynn Hei and husband, James, Gary Lee Carter and Misty Dawn Werner and husband, James, all of Hagerstown; one grandson, Evan Christopher; one sister, Delorse Bond; one brother, Howard F. Carter, Jr. and a half brother, William Crowe.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday September 1, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown with Rev. Gregory Shook officiating.

Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown is assisting the family with the arrangements.
