George Allen Bachtell

George Allen Bachtell, 92, of Hagerstown, passed away, Monday, February 4, 2019, at Doey's House, Hagerstown.
Born May 6, 1926 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George Benjamin and Beluah (Swope) Bachtell. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Woodward; a grandson, Patrick Bachtell; a great grandson, Jamison Bachtell; a brother, Wilbur Bachtell and a sister, Lillian Smith.
Mr. Bachtell was a US Army veteran.
He retired from the Chessie System (formerly the Western Maryland Railroad) where he was an inspector. In addition to working for the railroad he also worked as a farmer.
He was a member of St. Peters (Beard's) Lutheran Church, Leitersburg and was a founding member of the Valley Little League and was associated with them for over 30 years as a board member and coach.
Mr. Bachtell is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Nellie Louise "Sis" (Barnes) Bachtell; five sons: Douglas A. Bachtell (Teresa), R. Wayne Bachtell (Pat), Brian Bachtell (Julie), Rodney L. Bachtell (Kathleen) and Donald Bachtell (Deb); one brother, Kenneth Bachtell; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. John Schildt officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in George's name to Hospice of Washington County (Doey's House), 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
Rest Haven Funeral Home, Hagerstown is assisting the family with the arrangements.
