George Joseph Burger, 90, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Saturday, May 27 at Williamsport Retirement Village.
Born on December 31, 1932, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of George Edward Burger and Frances May Null. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia (Patsy), and grandson Zachary Burger.
He worked for Coca-Cola in Hagerstown and Baltimore and later worked for Terminal Distributing in Baltimore. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1953.
He enjoyed steamed crabs, racquetball, tennis, dancing, listening to bluegrass music and attending bluegrass shows. He enjoyed roller coasters. In fact, he took his last ride last summer at the age of 89! He was a gifted storyteller and could make folks laugh at his jokes and quips. He was a hardworking man with many talents. He was easy to talk to and made instant friends with virtually everyone he met.
He is survived by his five children, Robert (Joe) Burger, wife Susie, Donna (Burger) Hutzell, husband Phil, Debra (Burger) Shank, husband Elmer, Dena (Burger) Wright, husband Larry and Rance Burger, wife Zoe, over a dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Burger (Lowman) and a brother Bill Burger, wife Beverly.
He will be missed very much by his family and friends.
Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 11am at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown with Pastor Fred Leroy Lowman officiating.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
