George F Harnish Sr.

George F. Harnish Sr., 89, of Hagerstown, Maryland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. He was the husband of 52 years to the late Leda Marie (Spielman) Harnish.
Born on March 13, 1934, in Lanes Run, Blairs Valley, Maryland. He was the son of the late Darius Kline Harnish and Rosa Jane (Sowers) Harnish. George graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1953. He entered the United States Army, and proudly served three years during the Korean War, completing his service as a Specialist Third Class. He worked for more than 30 years for Mack Truck Inc. in Hagerstown, Maryland. He also worked as a bus driver for 5 years with  Washington County Public Schools and also volunteered his time driving the church bus for many years. He was a member at Evangel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycles Association. 
George enjoyed playing soccer until he was 40 years old. He enjoyed taking long road trips and was an ice cream fanatic.
He is survived by his children, Terry Harnish and wife Mary Lou, Larry Harnish and wife Cindy, and Tina Drury and husband Dave; grandchildren Keleigh Nigh (Doug), Courtney Salow, Terra Bennett (Chad), Terry Lee Harnish Jr. (Tamie), Ryan Harnish (Laura), Sara Moore (Brad), Lea Taylor (Aerik), Scot Drury, Tiffanea Yarnell (Shawn) and Megan Seeger. Numerous great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Thelma L. Butts.
In addition to his wife Leda and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George F. Harnish Jr., and two sisters, Gladys E. Shupp and Helen Swanger.
The family will receive friends from 10-11am on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742. The funeral service will begin at 11am with interment and military honors to follow.
