George Russell Stottlemyer

George Russell Stottlemyer, 80, of Hagerstown, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center.

Born December 10, 1933, in Funkstown, he was the son of the late George Raymond and Lola (Kline) Stottlemyer.

He was a 1952 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Following graduation he joined the US Army.

George retired as a food service supervisor at Fahrney Keedy Nursing Home before owning and operating "George and Willie's Restaurant" with his wife for 19 years on Franklin Street.

He was a member of the Funkstown American Legion Post 211, VFW Post 1936, and the Amvets Post 10. Basketball was his passion. He was involved with the Hagerstown Junior Basketball League as a coach and president for over 50 years and had won the All-Star Saturday Award.

He is survived by his loving wife, Willabelle K. (Poling) Stottlemyer; four daughters, Sonya Long and husband Gerald of Greencastle, Christine Harris of Martinsburg, Wanda Black and husband Robert of Hagerstown, Teresa Stottlemyer of Greencastle; six stepchildren, Larry Hershman and wife Barbara of Hagerstown, Ruth Dupuis and husband Dick of Newark, DE., Gary Hershman and wife Lisa of Rohrersville, Glenda Walling and husband William of Lappans Crossroads, Robert Hershman and wife Madonna of Smithsburg, Retha Thomas of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Charles R. Stottlemyer; a nephew, Steve Orndorff; and a sister, Peggy Orndorff.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor's Tim and Audrey Hollenberg-Duffey officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 7-9pm on Monday at the funeral home.
