Mr. Gerald â??Jerryâ? Conrad Flegal, â??Bopâ?, 90, formerly of Edgewood Hill Circle, Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center-Davie Hospital near Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mr. Flegal was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Hagerstown, the son of the late Charles Britton and Ada Maybelle Orcutt Flegal.
He retired in 1984 from Fairchild Industries and had worked at Carsonâ??s Jewelry store as a young man. Mr. Flegal was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and was a member of St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church in Hagerstown.
Music was his first love. He played the trumpet in the YMCA band as a teen and later had a dance band, â??Jerry Flegal & the Imperials,â? that played many places in the Tri-State area. Mr. Flegal was a member of American Legion Post 42 and the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lou Anna â??Annâ? Seamone Flegal, at home; a daughter, Carole Wissinger (Bruce) of Mocksville, N.C.; a grandson, Michael Paul Davies (Corisa) of New Market, Md.; two sisters, Doris Fredericks of Ellicott City, Md., and Janice Lucille Reeder of Hagerstown; three great-granddaughters whom he adored, Myah, Gemma and Brooklyn Davies; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Collin Poston officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Hagerstown.
