Geraldine Mae Harmon, 86, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born May 13, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Reno Sr. and Elsie Mae (Mongan) Powell.
She retired as a secretary for Argonne National Laboratories, Chicago, where she had worked on the Manhattan Project to build the first atomic bomb.
She was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren.
She was an active volunteer for Pets on Wheels, visiting nursing homes in the Hagerstown area.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia M. Kite of Hagerstown; two sons, Hubert M. Harmon Jr. of Hagerstown, and Daniel M. Harmon of Foley, Ala., and one granddaughter, Laura M. Harmon.
In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hubert M. Harmon Sr.; one sister, Dorothea Gossard and one brother, Reno Powell Jr.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
