Gilbert Zimmerman, 80, of Hagerstown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at Gilchrist Hospice Center, Columbia, MD.
Gilbert was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 26, 1936. He was the son of the late Gladys (Moscow) and Samuel Zimmerman. Gil is preceded in death by his faithful dog Cody.
Gilbert served in the U.S. Army in Korea as a medic.
He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.
He was an animal lover and rescuer, loved to golf, ride motorcycles, and loved to act appearing in several productions at the Potomac Playmakers and the Philadelphia Acting Guild. Along with his wife Donna, Gil owned and operated Vasco, Inc., a home improvement business for 32 years.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Donna Zimmerman; a daughter Angela Mease and husband John; one brother Ted Zimmerman; son Brian and daughter Denise; and three grandchildren, Adam, James, and Jennifer.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc. 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Dr. Raymond Moreland and Rabbi Jonathon Pantiz will be officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
