Gregory Alan Cole, Sr. of Mercersburg, PA passed away on December 22nd, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Greg was born on November 25th, 1946 in Welsh Run, PA to parents James B. Cole, JR and Goldie (Mummert) Cole. He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1964, before joining the US Navy.
After his naval service, he worked at Fairchild Industries. He then started his career at the Maryland State Department of Corrections, retiring in 1993. He then worked for G4S Secure Solutions, before retiring in 2014 as Area Manager.
Greg enjoyed traveling with his wife to car shows, showing off his prize winning 1957 Dodge Coronet, seeing the country, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Greg was a member of Harry Lacklove Post 517 in Mercersburg, PA. and the James W. Bowers #173 Masonic Lodge in Hancock, MD.
Greg was preceded in death by his father James B. Boyd, JR., his mother Goldie V. (Mummert) Cole, his brother Terrill Cole, and his son Gregory A. Cole, JR.
Greg is survived by his wife Linda Cole, sons Matthew Cole and wife Nicole of Greencastle, PA, Marty Towns and wife Tami of Mercersburg, PA, Jon Towns and wife Jackie of Springhill, FL, and Gregory Cole III of Hagerstown, MD. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Tayler Quivers, Milton Broome, Colton Broome, Tessa Piper, Nate Towns, Asher Cole and Josie Cole and great grandchildren Claire and Braelyn, with one future great grandson on the way.
Family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, December 26th, 2024 from 6 to 8 PM, with funeral services being held Friday, December 27th, 2024 at 1 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown, MD., with Reverend Alan R. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow.
Memorial donations can be made to Heartland Hospice at 1976 Scotland Ave. in Chambersburg, PA.
