It is with heavy heart and deep sadness to announce the death of Harry J. Bowers better known as "Buddy" formerly of Hagerstown, he died early Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Med Star St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, Md. He was 88.
Born October 6, 1931 in Four Locks, Md. he was the son of the late, George M. and Mildred Cethal Adelia (Miller) Bowers. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ann (Mellott) Bowers; step granddaughter, Jennifer Finfrock and four sisters, Evelyn M. McClanathan, Thelma (Til) Mills, Shirley L. Emmons and Claudia M. Mills.
He was a proud veteran having served three years in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Williamsport Red Men, the AmVets, and V.F.W. He also was a member of the Clear Spring American legion and the Moose Lodge, Hagerstown serving as a trustee.
He was employed by Colonial Hardwood Flooring then Masser Motors, Pony Express and retiring in March of 1986 from Hall's Trucking, Hagerstown.
Buddy leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Frances V. (Reynolds) Bowers; stepson, Denny Finfrock (Susan) of Chesterfield, Va.; stepdaughter, Robin McCauley (David) of Hollywood, Md. with whom he resided; three siblings, George "Gene" Bowers (Helen) of Hagerstown, Paul Bowers (Rosalie) of Clear Spring, Md. and Sharon Steele (Larry) of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three step grandchildren, Matt McCauley (Kim) of Leonardtown, Joe Finfrock (Sara) and Andee Finfrock, all of Chesterfield; four step great grandchildren, Maddie, Abby, Lilly and Ace of Leonardtown and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
