Harry M. Butch Gelwicks

Harry "Butch" Maurice Gelwicks, 75, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2018 at his home.
Born in Norfolk, VA on January 24, 1943, he was a son of the late Ruth Rayetta (Rummel) and Joseph Francis Gelwicks. In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Richard "Dick" Gelwicks, Ronald Gelwicks and Donald Gelwicks; and 2 sisters, Ruth "Tudy" Bovey and Mary Gelwicks.
Harry was a U.S. veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and National Guard and later became a correctional officer at the Maryland Correctional Institute.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Susan Gelwicks; son, James Gelwicks and wife Jennifer of Hagerstown; granddaughter, Savannah Jane; 3 brothers, Jack Gelwicks, John Gelwicks and Robert Gelwicks; and 3 sisters, Phyllis Harp, Theresa Crawford and Cynthia Carter.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 10:00 am in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Pastor Dean Pryor will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harry's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave Hagerstown, MD 21742
