Hazel Rebecca “Becky” Smith

Becky passed away November 30 at Meritus Hospital, Hagerstown MD. Born in Hagerstown October 12, 1947, second child of Ruth & Mick Stevens, both deceased. She was raised in Hagerstown/Williamsport area and attended schools in Funkstown, Downsville, and Williamsport, where she graduated from Williamsport High School in 1965.

She was employed over 45 years with various businesses in Hagerstown and retired from The Department of Social Services in 2010. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She married Charles “Derby” Smith in 1992 and family was her life. She was the proud mother of Charles R. Rhodes II & Kenneth J Rhodes. She enjoyed being involved in her sons lives with sports and school activities, often a wrestling partner with the boys. When the grandkids arrived, she also enjoyed following them in all their activities.

She was of Pentecostal faith. Surviving family members are husband Derby Smith, son Kenny Rhodes, daughter-in-law Patty Rhodes, stepsons Todd & Scott Smith, brothers Jake Stevens (wife Milly), Lou Stevens (companion Bernie), brother-in-law Danny Stottlemeyer and sister-in-law Patsy Nalley. She has four grandchildren Meghan Clever, Kirsten & Quinn Rhodes and step grandchild Cory McBrearty, great grandchildren Haidyn, Grayson, Brynne, Rileigh, and Lliam. She was proceeded in death by her son Chuck Rhodes, sister Joyce Stottlemeyer, and stepson Cory McBrearty.

There will be no viewing as Becky has committed her body to further science study to help others. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Experience Gateway Church in The Chapel (use the chapel/administrative offices entrance) at 11017 Kemps Mill Road, Williamsport MD 21795. The services will be Thursday December 12, 2024, from 6-8pm with Pastor Rodney Rhodes of Experience Gateway officiating. Dress is casual and In lieu of flowers, please make donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
