Hazel Virginia Waggoner, formerly of Hagerstown, MD died on January15, 2023 at her home in Fort Ashby, WV at the age of 98. Born on April 9, 1924, she was the only child of Oliver Smith and Alice (Plummer) Burkholder. After graduating in 1942 from Greencastle High School, Hazel worked at Eyerly’s and later at Fairchild Aircraft Industries where she met her husband of 64 years, John V Waggoner. Together John and Hazel owned and operated several businesses in Hagerstown. Hazel loved to travel. She frequently joined friends on bus trips and visited Europe on several occasions. Very active in her community, she was a tireless volunteer and a member of several organizations. Hazel was recognized for her leadership by being named Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Hagerstown. Hazel was a member of the Garden Club of Halfway and a 35 year member of the Meritus Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member for over 50 years of the First Christian Church, and a 34 year member of the Hagerstown Lioness Club and former member of the Hagerstown Woman’s Club. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband and son in law Barry L Myers. Surviving Hazel are her daughters V. Christine Waggoner (husband Thomas T Kudo), and Lisbeth (Beth) W Myers, Grandsons, Colin H Myers an Stephen(Drew) Myers and wife Amber, two great granddaughters and a Sister in Law, Mollie An Church and husband Dale. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Christian Church on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11 AM. The family was greet visitors an hour before the service, In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
